Adrian Peterson entered the 2013 ESPY awards with a chance to walk away with three more pieces of hardware. Although he didn’t walk away with all three awards, Peterson won a pair of awards including “Best Comeback”.
The first award Peterson took was “Best NFL Player” beating out division rivals Aaron Rodgers and Calvin Johnson. Johnson, the leagues best receiver, broke Jerry Rice’s single season receiving yards record this past season. Peyton Manning and J.J. Watt were also candidates to win the award.
The next award Peterson walked away with was “Best Comeback”, an award Peyton Manning took during the NFL awards in February. Peterson topped some other great comebacks including the San Fransisco Giants catch Buster Posey, quarterback Peyton Manning, and the greatest closer in baseball history, Mariano Rivera.
Peterson had some stiff competition for “Best Male Athlete” an award won by NBA MVP and back-to-back champion LeBron James. LeBron had high praise for Adrian “All Day” Peterson.
“To be in a category with All-Day AP (Adrian Peterson), the Triple Crown winner (Cabrera) and the human fish (Phelps), it’s an honour,” James told ESPN.
“Just to be in a class with you guys is an unbelievable honor. This is for all four of us. I’m just going to keep it (the ESPY award) at my house.”
Peterson can now focus his attention on the 2013 season and breaking Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record.
